Jing gong assault rifle G608-2

The G608-2 is an assault rifle model designed by the well-known German company.

For the little story :

With the end of the Cold War and German reunification, the Bundeswehr was faced with a dilemma.

The G11 and the G41 had been abandoned and the G3 was then the only one in service.

It was certainly a powerful weapon but its 7.62 mm NATO ammunition did not correspond to the NATO standard which had adopted the 5.56 mm.

In addition, the G3 was heavy and bulky.

There was a need for a more modern weapon.

The German army had three solutions: keep the G3 despite its obsolescence, adopt the AK-74 of which the defunct German Democratic Republic left large stocks but whose ammunition (5.45 × 39 mm M74) was not that NATO standard, or develop a completely new weapon.

It is this last solution which was adopted.

The objective was to design a modern but economically realistic rifle, the costly saga of the G11 having served as a lesson.

In fact, the G-36 borrows a lot of ideas used by various designers of existing weapons: the nestable magazines are taken from those of the Swiss SIG-550 and some believe that the handguard is strangely reminiscent of that of the ancestral Belgian FAL. , from which the G3 was apparently already inspired.

As for the internal mechanism, more or less, it is that of the American Armalite AR-18.
