The M1903 Springfield is officially known as the United States rifle, Caliber .30-06, model 1903.
It was officially adopted by the United States as a military bolt-action rifle on June 19, 1903, and served in the First World War.
It was officially replaced by the standard infantry rifle with a faster fire, the M1 garand, from 1937. However, the M1903 Springfield remained in service as a standard emission infantry rifle during the World War II, when the United States entered the war without a sufficient quantity of M1 to arm all the troops.
It was also redesigned in service as a sniper rifle during World War II, the Korean War, and even in the early stages of the Vietnam War.
It is the same model that we find in the film, Saving Private Ryan.
