The M1903 Springfield is officially known as the United States rifle, Caliber 30-06, Model 1903.
It was officially adopted by the United States as a military-locked rifle on 19 June 1903, and served in the First World War.
It was officially replaced by the standard infantry rifle with a faster shot, the M1 garand, starting in 1937. However, the M1903 Springfield remained in service as a standard emission infantry rifle during World War II, when the United States entered the war without enough M1 to arm all troops.
It was also reworked as a sniper rifle during the Second World War, the Korean War, and even in the early stages of the Vietnam War.
It's the same model we find in the movie, we have to save Private Ryan.
